The King Ranch Cowboys.

In honor of National Day of the Cowboy, we celebrate fifth-generation Kineño Robert Silguero—a lifelong King Ranch cowboy who raises foals, tends the registered purebred herd, and rides with a quiet purpose that spans over 170 years. “I was born and raised on King Ranch,” he says. “Been a King Ranch cowboy all my life.” For Robert, the bond with his horse is everything: “He knows you as well as you know him.” And while the work is demanding, it’s never just work. “Every day I get up I want to go saddle another horse.” This is what tradition looks like…alive, enduring, and still in the saddle.

For master Saddlemaker Jerry Mejia, every cut of leather and hand-pulled stitch is a continuation of the Ranch’s legacy that began in 1853. From his bench in Kingsville, Texas, Jerry builds saddles the traditional way, with deep respect for the riders who rely on them. As the seventh generation of saddles crafted at King Ranch, his work doesn’t just preserve tradition—it carries it forward.

Rick Falcón III carries on a family legacy forged in the saddle. Like his father, Rick Falcón Jr., and his grandfather before him, he followed his calling with dedication and deep respect for the land. From growing up on the Ranch to managing South Santa Gertrudis, he’s earned every step—with his horse, Mister, by his side for over a decade. At King Ranch, family runs deep—and so do our roots.
